Two volumes, with 120 colour plates, pp xxii, 165; vi, 223, fore-edge slightly marked, Volume One has a small blemish on the front blanks and the half-title which aslo appears on the reverse of the frontispiece but which is all but imperceptable on the image itself, front hinges cracking, rear hinges less so (but all still firm) decorated cloth gilt, spine heads and tails slightly pulled or frayed, very slightly worn (slightly tightly bound, but preferable to the usual copies which are falling apart), with the armorial bookplates of Winifred M. Oliver-Jones. [Fred Whitsey's copy with his bookplate. He was the gardening correspondent of the Sunday and Daily Telegraph for a total of 45 years. A quiet unassuming man, a pacifist, a notable amateur violin player and a great gardener.]

The plates are the same as used in Wooster's Alpine Plants, a much more expensive set. This copy has been neatly re-cased, with new endpapers. A good clean set of a book which is now becoming rather scarce.
