Illustrated, octavo, pp (6), 239, fore-edge a little foxed, endpapers foxed, otherwise very good internally, original cloth with pictorial inlay on upper cover, spine head very slightly bruised, otherwise a very good copy in a slightly worn and chipped dustwrapper. From the library of William Stearn, with his signature on the front endpaper. [William Withering was an English botanist, geologist, chemist, physician and the discoverer of digitalis. The story is that he noticed a person with dropsy (swelling from congestive heart failure) improve remarkably after taking a traditional herbal remedy; Withering became famous for recognising that the active ingredient in the mixture came from the foxglove plant.
