Hood, octavo, pp (6), 583, a little age-toning, slightly weak internally, a couple of hinges opening very slightly, title page with a small faint splash-mark and the signature of Emily V. Neely, slightly creased, blue cloth, worn at the corners, a little dull and marked, spine with lettering very faint, pulled and slightly frayed at head and tail, joints rubbed, upper joint with tiny split, a bookplate on the front endpaper bears the name Jacqueline Beyer. [Robert Smythe Hichens, 1864 - 1950) was an English journalist, novelist, music lyricist, short story writer, music critic and collaborated on successful plays. He first became well known among the reading public with The Green Carnation (1894), a satire of Hichens's friends Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas; since the work made clear Wilde was homosexual it was withdrawn from publication in 1895, but not before helping set the stage for Wilde's public disgrace and downfall.]
