[1837 - 1840]. Three volumes, small quarto, pp viii, 96, (6); iv, 188; iv, 188, three vignette title pages, an extra hand-coloured title page in the first volume, with 137 fine hand coloured plates, all edges gilt, bound in a Victorian half morocco and cloth, the spines highly decorated in gilt, a little rubbed at the joints and corners, the cloth sides slightly marked and very slightly bubbled in a few small places. In Volume 3 title page and the first two plates and text are a little stained at the upper corner, the subsequent three plates and text pages very faintly marked; otherwise this is a remarkably clean and bright set internally - the plates all have their protective tissues which very occasionally have a faint spot of foxing, but nothing has transfered to the surface of the plate. With the book label of Carl Wendell Carlsmith [1904 - 1932] on each of the first blank pages in each volume. RARE, AND EXCEPTIONALLY DIFFICULT TO FIND COMPLETE. {George Beauchamp Knowles was a surgeon, and Professor of Botany at Birmingham School of Medicine. Frederic Westcott was a Secretary of the Birmingham Botanical and Horticultural Society, and contributed papers on the Shropshire flora to The Phytologist.}
